“The MULTIBUBBLE Project is an immersive art experience that features a range of collaborations designed to allow the viewer to peek into various creative universes.” Each artist group presents their own interpretations of a bubble of universe. The Multibubble was co-curated by Kylie Brown of CreativeRush and Lisa Rundstrom of SHIFTSPACE Gallery. The WSU MID group was part of its second installation at the Wichita Mini Maker Faire, 2017 at Exploration Place, Wichita. The MID bubble was created by Resha Parajuli and Caleb Wilson, with contributions and special help from Oreofe Olulana and Max Hinman.
Our interpretation of a bubble universe:
The MID group’s Bubble was a 9 x 9 x 9 ft. cuboid. The scale of our observable universe, is so big and so small. The distance between galaxies are astronomical, too large to fathom, while the distance between subatomic particles are only nanometers apart, too small to sense. Between these scales, lie all human perceptions, our sense of sight and hearing, limited to a few nanometers of visible wavelengths and a few kHz of audible wavelengths. Yet we try to understand all things big and small with telescopes, microscopes and instruments that help make sense of our distorted reality.
The bubble contained a 4 ft by 5 ft drawing of a tree with distorted proportions. When a cylindrical mirror was placed at the center, the mirror reflected the image in its true proportions. The ceiling of the bubble was painted to look like a nebulous night sky. We also displayed an interactive poem, another project in progress, which was later displayed at WSU ShiftSpace Gallery, Wichita.
